mce at the maplin electronics sales conference
mce was asked to host the maplin electronics sales conference. this involved compering the day’s event and organising a range of ‘generation game’ type of activities creating a fun and motivational atmosphere.

"mce came up with some original ideas to incorporate important sales results and messages into the day’s activities. we'll definitely have them back next year!" said retail director graham caldwell.

new pc world store gets a well received welcome
mce’ s brief was to develop links with the local community and deliver awareness of the forthcoming opening of a pc world store in staines, middlesex.

mce organised a software exhibition at a local secondary school that boasts technical college status. invitations were printed and handed out directly by form teachers to pupils and further advertised on the school’s website and in the local press. posters and large banners were strategically erected throughout the area.

mce invited suppliers of a variety of software – educational, music, photo and games that attracted attendance by both pupils and parents. mce offered a free of charge seminar on internet safety, anti-virus control, beat the hackers and child protection. finally a free prize draw offering an x-box to the winner was part of the evening’s ‘pulls’. mce provided a presenter to deliver key sales messages and he made skilful use of the wheel of fortune to ‘lighten’ the atmosphere.

the exhibition was well received and as well as software sales, attendees took with them discount vouchers for the new pc world store. the prize draw created a useful database and a business link was established between the store and the school for onward development. the prize draw winner was featured in the local press during the opening week.

"The exhibition looked great and mce staff created just the right atmosphere," commented judith edge, pc world software brand manager. plans are in the making for building similar community links at future pc world new store openings.

mce were told that scholl had 7000 pairs of shoes left over from previous years clogging up valuable warehouse space. they were asked to come up with a solution to sell them. in a classic rack 'em and stack 'em style event, mce transformed the reading scholl store into a clearance outlet.

the store was decorated with bold point of sale materials and balloon decoration. the sales team were speed sales trained and fully charged up by mce. a mountain of shoe boxes was delivered and head office staff were drafted in to help manage and replenish stock.

a strong promotions team with the help of a 9' elvis patrolled the reading streets spreading the word. and it spread fast. all 7000 pairs were sold in less than 4 days. in fact, the shelves were empty by 2pm on the fourth day and the store had to close.

"this has never been done in the history of scholl" said adam wilkins, regional manager, " this is definitely the way forward for us" he continued. since then, mce have provided launch events at re-branded scholl stores around the country and have set new sales records for the company.
